Beat the Heat (and Security Lines)
YSK (You Should Know): TSA Will Allow Solid Ice in a Water Bottle
Personal Hook
I was on my way to the beach with friends last summer when we realized our cooler had been tossed at security. No more cold drinks for us! We were so bummed, but then I remembered this weird trick I’d heard about using solid ice in water bottles.
The Realization
Okay, so I’m not exactly a rebel without a cause, but I was determined to get my beach body (aka, hydrated) back on track. I filled up my trusty Hydroflask with solid ice and hoped for the best. And guess what? It worked like a charm! The TSA agents didn’t bat an eye as we passed through security. We even got some weird looks from fellow travelers who were stuck without their own ice-filled bottles.
The Hack
Here’s the deal: if you’re planning to bring your favorite insulated water bottle through a security checkpoint, don’t fill it up with water (duh!). Instead, chuck in some solid ice and call it good. The TSA will be like, “Oh, no liquid? All clear!” And when you get to the other side, just refill that baby with cold-pressed goodness. Trust me, it’s a total game-changer for hot weather adventures.
Funny Fail Moment
Let’s just say I learned my lesson the hard way – after our cooler was tossed and we had to buy lukewarm drinks from a vending machine at the beach. Not exactly the highlight of our vacation…
Reflection
Since then, I’ve been using this trick all the time, and it’s saved us so much money on overpriced airport drinks. Plus, it’s just satisfying to see those TSA agents crack a smile when you explain your “solid ice” excuse. Don’t be like me – try it out and let me know in the comments below!
