Some Advice About Digital Minimalism?

Personal Hook

I’ll never forget the night my family’s Netflix binge-fest turned into a three-hour scroll-through of memes. We were all “just one more minute” deep in a sea of cat videos and suddenly, I realized: what are we even doing? That was when I decided to take drastic measures – I unplugged our Wi-Fi.

The Realization

It wasn’t easy, folks! But I knew if I wanted to get my family off the digital couch, I had to put our feet to the fire. I started by getting a new laptop (yes, it’s been a while since I’ve shelled out for one of these babies) and took myself on a mission to find alternative ways to stay entertained.

The Hack

Here’s what I’ve learned so far: hit up your local library for some serious free Wi-Fi. I’m talking Netflix shows, downloaded like magic! And don’t even get me started on the DVDs from the library – it’s like having your own personal movie theater without breaking the bank (or losing all sense of productivity). If you’re feeling extra adventurous, try learning a new skill or hobby that doesn’t require an internet connection – for me, it was programming and 3D modeling. The possibilities are endless!

Funny Fail Moment

Oh, and let’s just say my attempt to “get with the times” by buying a radio ended in disaster… I tuned into what I thought was a sick new station only to find out it was actually a podcast about knitting from 2007.

Reflection

Life without Wi-Fi? Not as bad as you’d think! We’ve started having actual conversations, playing board games together (yes, really!), and even gone on more bike rides. Okay, maybe that last one is just me, but the point is: there’s a whole world of fun waiting for us offline – we just need to find it!
