LPT: Sleep Friendly Hotel Tricks
Personal Hook
I’ll never forget that one time I was on a work trip and spent three hours tossing and turning because the curtains wouldn’t stay shut, letting all the hotel hallway noise seep into my room. It was like trying to sleep in a college dorm all over again!
The Realization
As I lay awake, I realized that it wasn’t just the noise that was the problem – it was also the harsh lighting from the bedside lamps and the bright bathroom light when I needed to get up in the middle of the night. That’s when I had my “aha!” moment: why not prep for a good night’s sleep by bringing some essentials with me?
The Hack
So, here are a few tricks I’ve learned over the years:
- Pack a large binder clip or two to keep the curtains fully shut – if you forget them, they’re super cheap to replace. In a pinch, even a hair clip will do.
- Use a towel to dim and warm up that harsh bedside lamp light. Just make sure it’s an LED bulb first!
- Take a warm tone inflatable camping lantern with you as a nightlight – it’s perfect for the bathroom, and also comes in handy during emergencies or camping trips.
- Bring a cheap knockoff pashmina shawl to use as a small blanket if you get chilly. It’s also great as an extra layer over your PJs.
- Wear down camping booties around the hotel room when winding down – they’re perfect for keeping your feet warm, and I like to add disposable toe warmers for extra coziness.
Funny Fail Moment
One time, I tried using a hair clip to keep the curtains shut, but it ended up getting tangled in the window lock… yeah, that was fun!
Reflection
Since then, I’ve been able to catch some great z’s on my work trips and vacations. Just remember: it’s all about being prepared!
